Philadelphia, PA

Philly is one of BazelBlue’s favorite family friendly cities to visit.  We are in love with the city of Brotherly Love!  There is so much to do and it can be done on any budget. The cities rich history gives your child a first-hand social studies lesson they will never forget.  Whether you are visiting the Liberty Bell or taking advantage of one of the cities many walking tours you will get a blast from the past and really experience and learn about our founding for fathers.  Walk the same path as Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin! See where they lived, worked, worshiped and how their vision became the United States of America.

When in Philly…you better have a Cheese Steak!

History of the Cheese Steak…

During the 1930s in the Italian immigrant section of South Philadelphia, brothers Harry Olivieri (1916-2006) and Pat Olivieri sold hot dogs and sandwiches. One day they bought beef and onions and cooked it up. It was a hit! They quit selling hotdogs quickly. Twenty years later they added provolone cheese to the mix. You can still get Cheese Steaks at Pat’s King of Steaks at 1237 East Passyunk Avenue. The business has been there ever since, open 24 hours a day.

Nowadays you can get your Cheese Steak with Provolone, American or Cheese Wiz cheese. Philadelphians are choosy about their rolls. It must be long and thin, not too fluffy or soft, but not too hard. You can get a cheese steak on almost any block in Philly. But where’s the best place?
Where is your favorite place to get a cheese steak?

The Franklin Institute
The Franklin Institute is a place for all ages! The fun begins at first floor where you can go deep inside space. In this exhibit you can locate your house on a satellite, see real astronaut equipment and of course play space games! From what I’m about to tell you might want to live on the second floor. The first thing I want to tell you about is the electricity room. Some of the cool things is to do there is, dance on the dance floor to generate power to it or send/resave a text and have the characters light up! We are now passing the giant heart. I know what you are thinking”OMG it’s a plastic heart” WRONG! The giant heart makes you feel like you are really in a heart! The third floor is for all you sports lovers out there.  In the sports challenge room you can play any sport you want. For more information, visit The Franklin Institute.com.
